In France, the possession and carrying of a telescopic baton are governed by law. Telescopic batons are considered category D weapons, which means they may be legally sold, but their possession and carrying are regulated.
Under Article R. 311-1 of the French Internal Security Code, carrying and transporting category D weapons is prohibited unless justified by a legitimate reason, such as practicing a sport or a professional activity requiring the use of this type of weapon, as is the case for police officers, gendarmes and municipal police officers, as well as certain private security companies.
