What is neoprene?
Neoprene, also known as polychloroprene, is a synthetic rubber that can be manufactured from two raw materials: petroleum or limestone.
It was in the 1920s that a chemist named Wallace Carothers, working for the Dupont de Nemours company in the United States, discovered this substitute for natural rubber. From the 1930s onward, neoprene appeared in everyday life thanks to its resistance to liquids. It is used for insulation in the form of gloves, shoe soles, telephone wires and hoses. It was not until 1950 that the first neoprene diving suits appeared.
Why use it in the law enforcement sector?
Today, neoprene is considered an innovative material in the law enforcement sector. Traditionally, holsters and accessory carriers for law enforcement are made of leather, plastic or Kydex. For some years now, there has been growing interest in comfort as well as in the light weight and ergonomics of products.
At GK, we have developed a “neo” range in which you will find neoprene holsters, accessory carriers, belts and gloves
In addition to being just as hard-wearing as other well-established materials, neoprene will give you the light weight, comfort and durability you need on your missions.
Neoprene is recognized for its high resistance to tearing, but also to impacts and to changing weather conditions (humidity, heat, etc.). It protects against the penetration of water and other particles that could damage your equipment.
In addition to the many qualities neoprene brings you, it will offer you the same safety as the other materials usually used in the sector.
