RESERVIST POLICE OFFICER
In 2022, the national police force is launching a campaign to recruit 30,000 reservists. Much less known than the gendarmerie reserve, the police reserve is nevertheless very useful, especially in the context of the 2024 Olympic Games.
But then, what is the police reserve? These are civilian citizens, trained in the techniques of interpellation and the handling of a handgun, in parallel with their studies or their employment. Very useful to reinforce the police services, the human side of the operational reserve is essential: in a society where citizens are more and more distrustful of the police, the latter must remain in contact with them and at their service.
Do you like this experience? So how do you become an operational police reservist? First of all, all access conditions must be met, namely
Conditions of access- Be of French nationality
- Be between 18 and 65 years old
- To have fulfilled his obligations towards the national service
- Be of good character
- Be judged physically fit during a medical examination by an approved physician
Once these conditions have been met and the formalities completed, you can enter training. For civilians, this training is of a duration of 10 days. It will take place at the National Police School and will train you on the safety rules to be respected during interventions, the organization and functioning of the police, as well as information and instructions relating to weapons and your missions! This training will then be supplemented by a second 10-day training in a police department of assignment. It is important to know that the department of assignment is the police station closest to your home.
You will be equipped in the same way as the active police officers: pants, accessories holder, shoes and bulletproof vest. Please note that as a police reservist you carry your administrative weapon, you will have to perform your annual shooting sessions. However, you will not be able to carry your weapon off duty, unlike active police officers.
Choice of assignment schedule: your schedule will be chosen and organized with the head of your department. Obviously, you are only a reservist in your spare time.
The missions and modalities, once hired.
The Reserve is a flexible institution. You can choose your commitment period (from minimum 1 year to 5 years). You will have a maximum of 90 shifts per year, all paid. The missions are very varied and they are mainly support missions (operation “tranquillity vacations”, prevention against delinquency, reception, driving vehicles …). However, you will not be able to carry out missions of the BAC (anti-crime brigade) or of law enforcement. Please visit the official police website for more information.
